Chill/Be Chilled

John Coolman, a retired special agent living in a serene neighbourhood in Canberra, was always a fan of tranquillity and a cool breeze. That fateful morning, as he sipped his iced tea, he was content. His trusty air conditioner hummed in the background, protecting him from the scorching heat outside. There was no way he would be able to get through the summer without his trusty air conditioning. Canberra summers could be brutal.

His calm was shattered when a group of mischievous teenagers from the neighbourhood threw a rock into his AC unit, wrecking it. They raced away on their bikes, cackling. John’s cool sanctuary turned into a sweltering oven within minutes.

His blood boiled, and not just because of the heat. In his former life, he was known as ‘The Cool Avenger,’ a special agent renowned for his ice-cold demeanour and mastery of high-tech gadgets. John knew it was time to come out of retirement.

Donning his old suit, complete with cooling shades, he embarked on a quest to teach the teenagers a lesson. Using his advanced gadgets and wits, he managed to locate their houses. He decided to replace their air conditioners with gas heating units. Canberra could get hot at the best of times – just wait until these twerps were desperate to turn on the air conditioning, only to be hit by a scorching surprise.

As he deftly switched out the units, he made sure to leave a note in each house. It read, “Today you learned the importance of cool air. But more importantly, learn to respect other people’s property and the sanctity of a cool room during a heatwave. Let this hot surprise be a lesson.”

John Coolman, feeling satisfied, returned home to find that the community had pitched in to buy him a new air conditioner. His actions had become the talk of the town, and it seemed his days as ‘The Cool Avenger’ were far from over.
